Poly-crisis in numbers or Supply chains undergoing change

Prologis has released an analytical report, Global Supply Chain Outlook 2025, which highlights that companies are preparing for what it calls a poly-crisis: a combination of economic instability, changing customer demands and pressing climate challenges. The survey of more than 1,000 executives from the US, UK and Germany shows that adaptability and resilience are key to meeting today’s supply chain challenges.
Two-thirds (66%) of respondents said they are feeling increased pressure in their supply chains, and 79% of executives said the pace of the transition to alternative energy sources is too slow. In total, 87% of executives surveyed see accelerating the implementation of sustainable solutions over the next 24 months as critical.
Sustainability is now a priority for 85% of managers, who see it not only as an obligation but also as a competitive advantage. Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) play a vital role in improving supply chain efficiency and managing economic and geopolitical pressures. Investing in automation has become important to 87% of executives who believe these technologies minimize labor shortage issues and increase productivity.
According to the report, 81% of managers are looking to integrate AI into their processes, primarily for demand forecasting and real-time data analysis. Despite this, 94% of managers face obstacles such as concerns about security, data quality or implementation complications. AI is seen as key to staying competitive, and 80% of respondents said they feel external pressure to implement it.
The report also stresses the need for agility and preparation for unexpected situations. The majority of executives, 87% to be precise, identify preparing for unexpected ‘black swans’ as their top priority, with only 42% feeling adequately prepared for cyber-attacks and 41% for technological change. This is leading to a rethinking of risk management strategies and a greater focus on flexibility.
According to Prologis, the future of supply chains depends on the integration of automation (81%), intelligent data analytics (80%), sustainability (79%) and AI to revolutionise management and make them more resilient to unexpected challenges. New technologies, such as cloud solutions and IoT, are helping to improve data management and real-time tracking, making companies more agile.
