What is the key to digitization in warehouses and manufacturing companies? Private 5G networks
The rapid development of 5G technology is opening the door for many companies to further streamline internal operations. Since 2020, over 100 companies around the world have tested private 5G networks. They have invested several hundred million dollars in their introduction. Germany, Japan, Great Britain, and the USA currently have the biggest plans for implementation.
A boom is coming
According to a number of sources, there is an assumption that most companies will deploy private 5G alongside other existing connectivity solutions within the next 5 to 6 years. Major seaports, airports, and other logistics centres are expected to be early adopters. According to Jan Šlajer, Company Representative of DYNAMIC FUTURE, how can private 5G networks affect warehouses and manufacturing companies in the Czech Republic?
“In general, we can say that wherever something is moving, private 5G networks are an excellent solution. The need for connectivity is increasing, and cable connection to all devices is space-consuming. When, for example, you want to change the layout in the warehouse, a stationary connection becomes very restrictive,” says Jan Šlajer.
When it is necessary to secure technical means connected to the network, such as various sensors on machines, barcode readers, terminals, according to the Company Representative of DYNAMIC FUTURE, domestic companies usually resort to either cables or Wi-Fi.
“One problem with Wi-Fi can be difficulties with the shielding of the rack or other obstacles to the signal,” but J. Šlajer explains one of the reasons why organizations are switching to private 5G networks.
5G for new warehouses and manufacturing plants
In cases where it is desirable to monitor the movement of people, carts, robots, or products, all these elements must be equipped with sensors that detect them. In order for data to be transferred continuously, it is essential to use stable connectivity.
“Private 5G networks are especially useful for new warehouses and manufacturing companies that want to go digital and collect data from different devices and people. They can thereby have an overview of production, handling, and movements of commodities in the warehouse, and so on,” says Jan Šlajer.
The greatest benefits and possibilities of application
Private 5G networks are becoming a key component of digital transformation. They offer many benefits that help organizations optimize operations, increase efficiency and security, and also to speed up data transfer. Here are the main ones:
- Higher data rates and more bandwidth: Private 5G networks offer significantly higher speeds and bandwidth, compared to public 5G/LTE networks, making them ideal for augmented and virtual reality applications, video surveillance, drones, and remote maintenance. In addition, the bandwidth can be distributed according to priorities.
- Lower latency: Private 5G networks offer lower latency, which is key for applications that require instant response, such as autonomous vehicles or industrial control systems.
- Ability to connect multiple devices in a defined area: With 5G technology, it is possible to connect multiple devices in the same area, which is beneficial for environments with high device density, such as factories or large office buildings.
- Better connectivity: Better connectivity has many dimensions, such as greater responsiveness or easier addition of additional devices and sensors.
- Greater security and flexibility: Private 5G networks offer a higher level of security and more flexibility in network configuration and management, compared to public 5G networks. This is especially beneficial in environments where control over network resources and data is important.Source:
